St George’s online banking services suffered a blackout yesterday, locking out thousands of customers from accessing their accounts for approximately five hours.

From 12:00pm to 5:00pm customers trying to access St George’s online banking were greeted with an error page reading:

“Internet Banking is temporarily unavailable. Our technical staff are currently investigating the issue and your service will be restored as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

St George’s other banking facilities, its Business Banking Online services, remained functional.

A St George spokesperson issued a brief statement reading: "Internet banking had intermittent outages this afternoon due to systems issues. Our internet banking is now fully functional."

iTnews is waiting for St George to provide further details on the cause of the outage.
