Defence taps TechOne for new student management system

The Australian Defence Force is set to roll out a new enterprise student management system across its training establishments in a bid to enhance the education and training process.

The new system from Brisbane’s software-as-a-service heavyweight TechnologyOne would provide Defence with a more reliable approach to recording personnel training, Commander Australian Defence College, Major General Mick Ryan said.

“The system provides a more efficient approach to student administration across Defence and underpins our shift to a more continuous, accessible and adaptive learning environment,” he said.

It follows TechOne’s delivery of a proof of concept last year, for which it won a $1.35 million contract.

However, Defence is still looking for a channel partner to install and manage the new system.

“Delivering a project like this demonstrates Defence’s commitment to optimising the education and training of our personnel,” Ryan said.

“It provides excellent opportunities for Defence to work with the Australian domestic ICT sector in a rapidly evolving domain.”

A Defence spokesperson confirmed to iTnews the contract with TechOne for the full enterprise student management system comes in at $17,197,003 (before GST), with an initial term of two years and a possible extension for up to seven years.

Under the contract, TechnologyOne will deliver a single solution through the following interlinked systems:

• TechnologyOne Student Management, which will manage student administration and processing.
• TechnologyOne Enterprise Content Management, which will manage curriculum and content delivery items.
• TechnologyOne Stakeholder Management, which will be used for individual student case administration, notification capability and business process management.

The new system will replace a number of bespoke systems developed by individual training centres that have been in use which lack the ability to interact with the Defence Human Resources system, the spokesperson said.

Student data be migrated from these unconnected systems onto TechOne’s singular
