The contract was awarded following an open tender process and will result in the eDocs system being deployed to some 2,000 users across Victoria.

iTnews understands the department will initially kick off a pilot project for the system covering around 130 users in June.

It will progressively roll the new system out to the remaining parts of the department over an 18-month period.

VicRoads won't scan or migrate documents across from older information systems, according to Tony Ljaskevic, program delivery manager for the electronic document and records management system (EDRMS) project at VicRoads.

"We're taking a day forward approach," Ljaskevic said.

"From a particular point in time all new documents created will go into the [new] EDRMS."

Ljaskevic said that he expected the EDRMS would help VicRoads improve its document and records management practices, document security and search.

VicRoads manages the Victorian arterial road network and its use as an integral part of the overall transport system.

WindowLogic is a local systems integrator and services company that specialises in enterprise content management.
