Digital Stakeout acquires vulnerability scanning firm

Digital Stakeout, an Atlanta-based managed security services company, has acquired ScannerX, a provider of vulnerability scanning and assessment services.

The acquisition will boost DigitalStake's ability to provide vulnerability management services to midsize companies, executives said.


DigitalStake's web-based assessment service, ThreatPortal VMS, will incorporate ScannerX's Nessus-based, open-source vulnerability assessment scanning engine.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mike Pearson, chief executive of DigitalStakeout, said in a statement that the acquisition is an example of continued consolidation in the network security market. He described the industry as moving away from point products to more dynamic solutions.

Privately held DigitalStakeout was founded last year. Its management team includes industry veterans from Internet Security Systems (ISS), NetBank, and SecureWorks.
