Spark Digital picked the Takanini location for its proximity to two independent electricity substations. It's also at low-risk of being hit by tsunamis. The foundations of the building reach 19 metres into bedrock, and to withstand earthquakes, the facility sits on rubber and metal dampers. These have a lead core that melts if the building is subject to a quake, which further protects against vibrations and movement, Spark Digital said.
