Google's Cloud Storage, BigQuery data analytics, Datastore NoSQL database and its low-latency globally distributed domain name system (DNS) service will be the initial set of services for vCloud Air.

The Google Cloud Platform services will be integrated with vCloud Air, and available on a pay-as-use basis under existing contracts and network interconnects.

Google Cloud Platform services will be avaliable to VMware customers later this year, but the companies did not give an exact date.

VMware's vice president of cloud services, Matthew Lodge, said the company's networks will be directly connected with Google's.

Google for Work's managing director of global partner strategy and alliances, Murali Sitaram, said support for vCloud Air customers using Cloud Platform services will be handled by VMware.

Sitaram also said VMware was looking into extended support for Google Cloud Platform through the vRealize Cloud Management Suite for hybrid clouds.

vCloud Air is VMware's public cloud platform, launched in 2013. In Australia, Telstra is scheduled to host a local vCloud Air node in Melbourne, starting this year.
