NBN ditches construction chief in restructure

Responsibilities to be split in corporate reshuffle.

NBN Co has made its head of construction, Dan Flemming, redundant just 18 months after his appointment.

Flemming, who led the fibre roll-out construction effort, was the second head of construction at the company after his predecessor, Patrick Flannigan, abruptly left the role in 2011.

The redundancy came as a part of a executive level restructure. Under the restructure, the construction role is split in two, with previous general manager of implementation, Richard Thorpe, taking over on construction efforts. The billion dollar contracts currently up for renewal will fall under the supervision of the leader of business operations, Kat Stapleton.

NBN Co chief operating officer Ralph Steffens said the structural readjustment better positions the company to deliver on its targets.

“[This consolidates] expertise as we focus on the vital areas of contract management and rollout delivery within the COO team”, Steffens said in a statement.
