Internode has appointed the former head of operations at Cable & Wireless, Mike Damms, as its first chief information officer.

Internode appoints first CIO
The ISP first announced the creation of the CIO position back in August as part of a management restructure that saw Patrick Tapper appointed CEO, working alongside managing director Simon Hackett.

Damms has also worked previously for Vodafone UK, Avaya, Lucent and Motorola, and spent 15 years in the Royal Navy.

He has listed breaking down silos between technology areas by applying standardisation across product lines and developing new leaders internally as some of his key challenges.

”I plan to put in place a structure that gives people more predictable outcomes for both their external and internal customers,” he said in a statement.

He added: “Something I bring from the Navy is team culture. The forces had a requirement to teach other people to do your job because you might not be there tomorrow – for obvious reasons.”

“Internode is extremely innovative. This job is a chance to help take an organisation that has grown to a significant size to the next level by evolving its corporate structure while keeping its excellent culture,” Damms said.
