FrontBridge, a supplier of enterprise message management and email security services, has acquired MessageRite, a provider of email and instant message archiving technology.

Regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley require public companies to preserve email and instant messages, a FrontBridge spokesman said. The acquisition of MessageRite allows FrontBridge to offer companies a hosted service for message archiving, retrieval and email business continuity.

MessageRite's technology intercepts all messages and stores an indexed copy of each message in a secure offsite archive. Administrators can search and retrieve messages via a secure interface, as may be required by regulatory agencies.

The acquisition of the archiving technology expands FrontBridge's portfolio of services, which includes spam filtering, virus scanning, and policy enforcement.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
