Provides overview of virtual systems.

VMware has announced a new capacity management monitoring tool for virtualised environments.

VMware vCenter CapacityIQ will provide an overview of virtual systems, allowing customers accurately to predict and manage when and where resources are allocated.

VMware said that this would help to reduce the underuse of equipment, and minimise the threat of outages, systems failures and other problems.

Pitched at IT administrators, CapacityIQ analyses usage patterns and is critical to any users of VMware systems, according to the firm. As well as helping teams to monitor and evaluate performance, it will also remove the problem of over-investing in unnecessary capacity, VMware said.

"In virtualised environments, customers can optimise performance and boost return on investment by properly allocating resources," said Bogomil Balkansky, vice president for product marketing at VMware's server business unit.

"VMware vCenter CapacityIQ is the first product that enables customers to fully analyse their virtualised environments, identify bottlenecks and wasted resources, and plan for current and future capacity needs so they have confidence that they can meet business demands."

CapacityIQ can also be used to analyse the impact of any immediate or future changes to a virtualised estate, and remove many of the risks associated with rolling out critical systems on untried environments, the firm said.
