SA Police CIO "passes the baton"

The chief information officer of South Australia Police (SAPOL) Hamish Cameron has resigned from the force after almost six years.

Cameron led SAPOL’s Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) division as executive director and was tasked with uplifting its capabilities as part of a long-term transformation program.

Cameron, who also runs an online legal research service named Legal Oracle, wrote on LinkedIn that his last day at SAPOL will be May 12.

“Heading up IS&T has been the greatest privilege of my career, but it is time to hand over the baton,” he wrote. “I am great and genuinely excited about what the future holds.”

Cameron said he was “looking forward to building out Legal Oracle” but noted “nothing is locked in just yet”.

In a statement to iTnews, SAPOL said Cameron had provided “exemplary service” for the IS&T division over the past six years.

“Hamish has reformed our technology space and delivered major initiatives to support frontline police, enhance security, as well as improving service delivery to the South Australian community and other law enforcement partners,” a spokesperson said.

The force is now recruiting for a new IS&T division executive director to fill the position.

“The role will have the responsibility of identifying interconnected trends and new challenges, which will impact South Australia Police while shaping the context of our operating environment and strategic focus,” the spokesperson said.

“Optimising our use of technology provides new opportunities for disruption, prevention, enforcement, criminal investigation and prosecution, and we must harness technology to support policing and community needs whilst supporting innovation to enhance business practices.”
