Welby is based in Canberra and is responsible for all sales and operational matters in the ANZ region.
Cisco IronPort's email and web security solutions are sold exclusively through the reseller channel.
"It's a very exciting opportunity to work with a group that has performed extremely well over the last couple of years. I'm determined to support and continue our success so far," said Welby.
"Cisco IronPort relies on the channel for its success. We will ensure that our relationships are strong and that we add value to each others business.
"There is much competition for attention in the Channel and our aim is to make sure we are an integral part of our partners successes."
Welby said he took the job because Cisco IronPort has demonstrated over time that it is a high performing team and he was keen to be part of an organisation that exceeds expectations and delivers proven value to partners and customers
Talking about changes he will making internally, Welby said the team has been performing well but all organisations must continually improve on the way they execute on their business.
"It is my role to examine opportunities for ongoing success and continual improvements, the whole team will all be part of this process," he added.
Welby was previously a Cisco systems account manager with responsibility for several Canberra-based and national accounts, mainly focusing on education.
He also spent time with Cisco channel partner relationships in the ACT.
During his time with Cisco's Federal Government team, the company was successful, winning new business and delivering Cisco's value to Federal Government customers.
He joined Cisco from the ACT Government where he was responsible for Corporate Services in the Department of Disability Housing and Community Services.
He also spent several years as a social policy advisor across the public health and aged care sectors and with Aboriginal Affairs.
A music enthusiast, Welby started an annual Jazz Festival at Broken Hill when he was stationed there and persuaded musicians such as Don Burrows, James Morrison and Vince Jones to appear.
