Cherie Ryan quits as Oracle managing director ANZ

Commenting on her decision to step down, Oracle provided the following statement, “Cherie Ryan, VP and regional MD ANZ, is leaving the business to tend to a personal matter. Alistair Green, SVP cloud engineering, Japan & Asia Pacific, will step into the ANZ leadership role in the interim.”

Promoted from her role as sales director – key accounts, to managing director in June of 2020, Ryan was with Oracle for just over three years.

When she first took on the challenge of MD, she said that her focus for the company was to make it more approachable and easier to navigate.

“We kept it really simple: customer first, partner first,” Ryan told Which-50 in March 2021.

“That sounds really simple, it’s actually incredibly difficult to put into place. Because, culturally, there’s a massive change.”

While her first six months on the job were reportedly spent directly engaging with customers, the cultural shift she was looking for, was a more holistic change.

“Behind that is a huge amount of cultural change within Oracle, and I’ve been driving a lot of that cultural change … It’s really been about pulling together – pulling together people,” she told Which-50 at the time.

As part of her managing director remit, the local boss was responsible for all lines of business and ANZ customers, and reported to global CEO Safra Catz.

According to Ryan’s LinkedIn, her fascination with the equalising power of technology has been a driver for her throughout her tenure in the industry to date.

“Technology has the power to be a great equaliser, removing barriers and improving equality of life when it comes to healthcare, education, and creating a more sustainable future. The only limit is your imagination,” her LinkedIn profile says.

“Imagination and ingenuity permeate the Oracle brand. Oracle has always led with incredible tenacity when it comes to technology innovation - never afraid to push the boundaries. Being someone who lives for the leading edge of technology and sees its potential for businesses - this is one of the things that attracted me to the company.”

A veteran in the industry, Ryan’s previous experience includes executive leadership positions at Salesforce, Lenovo, Microsoft, NetApp and Novell.

Ryan will be superseded by Alistair Green, APAC’s SVP Cloud Services, who will take on the role of interim managing director until the company finds a permanent replacement for the role.
