CA joins virtualisation management frenzy
CA has expanded its Unicenter system management application to support virtualised and clustered networks.

The new Unicenter Advanced Systems Management r11.1 allows IT staff to dynamically assign resources to applications based on pre-defined business policies. An application that experiences poor performance during peak loads, for instance, could be provided with additional memory or CPU power. The software also can free up capacity by moving a low-priority application to a different server.

By allowing enterprises to dynamically assign compute resources, the software enables an increase in the overall system utilisation rate. CA also touted the software as a way to simplify the management of physical, virtual and clustered server environments.

CA is not the only vendor to jump into the virtualisation management space. IBM earlier this month unveiled a set of management technologies that allows companies to monitor and manage virtual and physical servers that span both IBM and non-IBM hardware.
