The conversation around securing connected devices in Australia is entering its next phase and smart product vendors and manufacturers are preparing to put their products through the Security Labelling Scheme for Smart Devices pilot ahead of the 2027 anticipated rollout.
If you’re not familiar with the Scheme, Connected Technology Alliance is co-developing the Scheme in partnership with the Australian Government to help consumers understand the security of internet-connected products before they buy them.
Consumers will be able to use the label to compare product security levels at a glance rather than sifting through the fine print. This is where the rubber hits the road and security becomes a competitive differentiator.
Labelling Scheme Pilot launching at the Connecting Technology Summit
I’m delighted to say that the pilot will be a key focus at the Connecting Technology Summit (1 – 3 September 2026), where the Hon Tony Burke MP, Minister for Home Affairs, Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Minister for Cyber Security, and Minister for the Arts, will deliver the opening keynote and officially launch the pilot.
We will also be hosting a panel discussion where we’ll tackle:
- Implications of the label for consumer security
- What it means for the smart device industry
- Future broader impact on industry.
The Connecting Technology Summit remains Australia's only industry-led conference exclusively dedicated to connected technology. This is where we bring together the people shaping the future of connected systems to explore the opportunities, challenges and decisions that matter most.
The program will examine the technologies and policy issues influencing the next generation of connected products. Topics include cybersecurity, interoperability, AI, digital infrastructure and the regulatory environment, with perspectives from government, industry and end users.
Key focus areas include:
- Connected technologies and data: connected technologies are evolving rapidly, with AI, edge computing, satellite communications and digital twins reshaping how systems interact. We'll examine the technologies driving the biggest change, how they’re converging and what that means for industry.
- Physical AI: as AI moves into the physical world, new opportunities and new risks are emerging. We'll explore how Physical AI is transforming connected products and services, what’s needed to build trust and how organisations can realise AI’s potential while managing security, safety and governance challenges.
The Summit is a great way to impress clients and thank employees. A huge thank you to our sponsors Viden, Securus Consulting Group and GHD for making it happen.
And it won’t be all hard work and back-to-back presentations. There'll be plenty of time for networking throughout the event. Take advantage of the Welcome Reception and Networking Drinks to make and deepen connections (and perhaps have some fun).

And finally, it’s not too late to sign up for the pilot and join NetComm, ASSA ABLOY, Telstra and other security conscious vendors. Become a pilot participant, demonstrate your security credentials and get a head start. Register here.
