Once the four-year period is over, a further two lots of two-year extensions are also possible.

The contract has run since May 2000. Its renewal comes during a downturn in the steel industry.

"We have been pleased with our relationship with CSC through the term of the last contract. They continue to support us well in a difficult business environment," said the company's CIO Andrew Baker.

"The further cost saving initiatives and service delivery improvements we plan to deliver with CSC are important to us."
