Comes at a "pivotal time of transformation".

The Australian National University is seeking a new leader for its technology function following the promotion of former chief information officer Jonathan Churchill.

ANU hunts new tech lead following CIO promotion

The Canberra-based university promoted Churchill to the role of chief operating officer in September last year, leaving a gap in its tech leadership.

Churchill first joined ANU from James Cook University at the end of 2021.

According to a university spokesperson, the new CIO will help “ensure a unified, efficient IT framework” across the university.

“The chief information officer is a key member of the university senior leadership group and oversees the development and execution of the university’s [information technology services] strategy.”

In a job advertisement, ANU said the appointment of a new CIO comes at a “pivotal time of transformation”.

“As CIO, you will oversee the development and execution of the ITS strategy and objectives driving a shift towards a unified, efficient IT framework across ANU,” according to the job ad.

The university is currently rolling out an extensive digital master plan, which is designed to improve technology services across the university and the wider community by 2030.

Concurrently, it is also rolling out a three-year data information management and integration strategy [pdf] that is set to conclude in 2026.
