High Tower pre-configures all the equipment before it is shipped to the end-user, so when the appliance arrives there are just a few simple steps to complete before it is online and ready to go. We found this product to be quite simple to use, thanks to the intuitive user interface that includes an easy-to-read dashboard-type console. We were impressed by the clean look of all parts of the console. This product displays a lot of vital information in one place in a clear manner.

The overall simplicity of managing this device was one of its attractions. The console is built on the Java platform, so it is possible to have many different window modules open at the same time without ending up in a jumbled mess of clicking through branch after branch or tab after tab to locate information. Also, we found that the Crystal Reports report engine provides a lot of flexibility in customizing reports.

This product has some excellent performance features that really allow users to stay on top of security issues on their network. The device is capable of handling up to 20,000 events per second and displaying real-time alerts and information. All information is clearly shown on the dashboard and can be analyzed further with just a few mouse clicks.

The appliance comes with an installation and quickstart guide, a user reference guide and an administrator user guide. All manuals offer clear and simple-to- follow steps for quick set-up and configuration. The documentation also includes screenshots, which are labeled with arrows that point to important areas of the user interface.

High Tower offers telephone support during office hours for all customers. However, premium support packages can be purchased that include options such as full 24/7 support and upgrade packages. The company generally sends a technical engineer to help with deployment and set-up of the device.

While this product has a lot of capability and flexibility, it does sit high on the price spectrum. We still think it is a good value for money and a good investment for companies that can afford such a device and the requirement for its high performance.

For: Flexibility, easy deployment and easy to administrate.
Against: High cost.
Verdict: High Tower Software's appliance is a top drawer SEM product. It is powerful, flexible and packed with features, while remaining easy to deploy and use. Only its high price prevented it from being our choice for Best Buy.
