Westan QLD Pty Ltd will close its doors on 1 August after 14 years in the distribution business.

Westan QLD Pty Ltd will close its doors on 1 August after 14 years in the distribution business.

The operation was owned by Steven Tan, who is the brother of Victor Aghtan, owner of Melbourne headquartered distributor Westan Australia Pty Ltd. Tan had the rights to use the Westan name in QLD.

Westan Australia also has offices in NSW, Western Australia, South Australia and New Zealand.

Following the Westan QLD closure, Westan Australia would open a new branch in Brisbane to “allow for the continuation of Westan’s business in Queensland", the company said in a letter to channel partners obtained by CRN.

“The branch will be open on August 1. Westan Australia will honour all Westan QLD warranties and we will endeavour to make the business processes as transparent to you as possible,” the letter said.

Speaking to CRN, Aghtan said the Queensland market “had got tougher” and his brother was ready to retire. Around six staff had lost their jobs, however, Aghtan said the company would be “going through the process of who we need” for the new operation.

Westan would find new premises in Queensland as the existing lease runs out in November, Aghtan said. Westan QLD was distributing for the likes of Samsung, Benq and Nikon.
