The Victorian ICT Industry Plan 2005–2010 has been launched, designed to encourage growth in the sector.

Marsha Thomson, Victorian Minister for Information and Communication Technology, said the plan was developed to foster a strong and innovative local ICT sector.

“This plan draws on the wealth of experience and ideas within the industry to create a strategic way forward for the growth of ICT in Victoria,” she said.

“With worldwide investments in ICT tipped to grow beyond $3 trillion, it is vital the Victorian ICT industry thinks globally."

According to a statement from the Minister's office, the plan identified new initiatives and programs to support future industry growth, particularly in areas such as government procurement, export and investment, workforce development and collaboration.

Among the plan's features are: $1 million over three to establish and grow ICT clusters and networks; development of emerging market strategies designed to help Victorian ICT companies identify export opportunities; and $1.9 million for an ICT scholarship and industry skills package.
