Transport for NSW is under new tech leadership

Transport for NSW has recruited former Network 10 CIO Jason Tuendemann to lead its technology delivery.

Tuendemann steps into a leadership position previously held by acting chief technology and innovation officer Kurt Brissett, who has left the agency after nine years.

However, he will hold the official title of group chief technology officer.

According to Transport for NSW, Tuendemann will now be responsible for “overseeing all technology infrastructure”, alongside strategy, integration, cyber and security, data management and operations.

In addition, he will oversee "how technology and data can service the needs and deliver outcomes for our passengers and customers”, a Transport for NSW spokesperson told iTnews.

Tuendemann most recently led AWS' media and entertainment professional services division for Asia Pacific.

Prior to joining the cloud provider in 2021, he was chief information and technology officer at Network Ten for over seven years.

His predecessor Brissett, meanwhile, oversaw the rollout and expansion of Transport for NSW’s Opal card system, its contactless payment system and the Transport Connect platform during his tenure at the agency.

According to a LinkedIn post, Brissett has now joined construction company Built as chief digital and information officer.

In a statement to iTnews, Transport for NSW said Brissett’s work focused on “how customers plan, book, pay and manage their end-to-end journeys”.

“We thank Kurt for his significant contributions during his time at Transport and wish him the very best for the future,” the spokesperson added.

Tuendemann’s arrival coincides with the development and roll-out of Transport for NSW’s 10-year enterprise-wide technology strategy, which focuses on cementing the agency’s “sustainable enterprise systems” and “digital-by-default approach”.
