Senate minority leader victimized by ID theft

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said this week that he has been victimized by identity theft, according to a report from CNN and other media outlets.

Reid learned he was an ID theft victim when he opened his MasterCard bill last week and realized someone had used his personal information to run up charges of about $2,000 at Wal-Mart and other stores in North Carolina.

The senator said he did not know how his personal information got into the hands of criminals.

Holding up his deactivated credit card, Reid said, "Something has to be done," according to CNN's report. A Reid staffer could not be immediately reached for comment.
