Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) has announced the appointment of Dr Janin Bredehoeft as its new CEO.

SAGE finds new CEO at WGEA

Bredehoeft joins the not-for-profit from her previous role as research and analytics executive manager at the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA).

In her role at WGEA she led a team responsible for data management, analysis and benchmarking as well as research and education.

According to Libby Lyons, chair of SAGE, “Dr Bredehoeft will be an incredible asset to SAGE. Her advocacy, leadership and achievements position her well to grow SAGE’s impact and influence nationally and internationally.”

SAGE claims to be the only transformational gender equity, diversity and inclusion program of its kind in Australia, working with the tertiary education and research sectors.

The outgoing CEO, Dr Wafa El-Adhami extended his congratulations to Bredehoeft via LinkedIn.

She wrote, “I know that SAGE will continue to thrive under [Bredehoeft’s] leadership. I am very proud of SAGE’s achievements and contributions to advancing gender equity, diversity and inclusion. I am also grateful for the excellent work of the SAGE team and for the SAGE community's commitment, leadership and championing of SAGE. SAGE's success is built on your success and collective contributions.

“It's been an absolute pleasure and privilege to serve SAGE and its community.”

El-Adhami has worked with SAGE since 2016 and served as its CEO from July 2020.

According to Lyons, “I’d like to thank Dr El-Adhami for her inspirational leadership of SAGE, positioning it as a national transformation program and building its international reputation and network of partners. We wish Wafa all the very best for the future.”

Bredehoeft announced the move on LinkedIn yesterday, “I am really excited to share that I have accepted the role as CEO of SAGE.

“After seven years at the Workplace Gender Equality Agency it is time to move on. It has been one of the best workplaces and one of the best jobs I have had.”
