The Reserve Bank of Australia has commenced a review of its server environment to ensure it can keep pace with business needs over the next decade.
Its existing servers support a variety of business needs and operations from "within the bank’s data centres”, it said.
The review forms part of its 2017-2022 technology strategy and “aligns with technology obsolesence planning for the next decade”.
The bank's future server computing environment will consist of a combination of four primary forms moving forward: standalone servers, converged servers, hyper-converged infrastructure and cloud.
Converged servers are currently employed for most of the bank’s server needs.
It is currently appealing to the market for future Intel-based server compute solutions that are capable of integrating with the current VMware standard.
As part of this, the bank wants “a management solution or set of layered management tools” covering all aspects of the planned server environment.
Last year the bank revealed it was preparing to open its internal business systems to enhance the transactional banking services it provides to government.
