Out of the blue: Boreham quits as IBM MD

IBM managing director Glen Boreham has stepped down from his position after 25 years with Big Blue.

IBM released a statement today to say that Boreham had decided to leave the company "to spend more time with his family and consider new challenges."

IBM has named former PwC chief operations officer Andrew Stevens [pictured, left] as Boreham's replacement.

Stevens oversaw the integration of PwC with IBM Global Services. Most recently he was a managing partner at IBM Global Business Services' Growth Markets division, concerned with new areas of business in South East Asia; India and South Asia; Greater China; Korea; Australia/New Zealand; Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa; and Latin America.

Stevens will continue to report to Bruno Di Leo, general manager of IBM Growth Markets - the same line of reporting as his predecessor.

In a statement today, IBM said Boreham [pictured, right] oversaw "significant wins" with Westpac, NAB and NBN Co as well as securing a new IBM Research & Development Lab in Melbourne.

Boreham has indicated he will continue in his roles as Chairman of Screen Australia and Chairman of the Advisory Board to the University of Technology, Sydney.
