NSW netbook scheme creates 400 technical support positions

Recruitment for the newly created positions is anticipated to start in May.

iTnews understands that details such as the eligibility of schools to receive the additional staff resource are still being finalised.

But it appears that the officers will not receive additional third-party support to help them integrate the new equipment into the school's existing network architecture.

"The Department will not be using an integrator or Microsoft to install the platform or deploy the laptops," a NSW DET spokesperson said.

"Part of the roll-out of laptops includes the employment of more than 400 full-time technical support officers based in high schools."

Yesterday, NSW Premier Nathan Rees announced that over 200,000 school students in years nine to 12 would receive Lenovo netbooks running Microsoft software under the Federal Government's digital education revolution scheme.
