UK - Ringboxx device can assign tunes to specific callers.

Novelty ring-tones coming to a landline near you
Equipment maker Home Phone Tunes has introduced a product that allows consumers to personalise home phones with novelty ring-tones.

Ringboxx allows users to assign ring-tones to friends, family or even unwanted 0800 numbers.

"Ring-tones have been immensely popular for mobile phones, and Ringboxx is the first product to bring that functionality to the home phone," said Kirk Cameron, chief executive at Home Phone Tunes.

"For more than a century, we have heard that 'ma bell' ring. Today people can choose to play an entertaining selection of ring-tones or personalise ring-tones to identify who is calling.

"There is now no reason to dash to the phone to answer a call that you are not interested in receiving."

Ringboxx connects to any home phone jack and is compatible with all standard landline phones.

The Ringboxx software allows users to browse and purchase ring-tones, ranging from popular music tracks to comedy clips.

Users subscribing to Caller ID services from their phone provider can program Ringboxx ring-tones to specific incoming numbers.

For those without Caller ID, customers can set the Ringboxx to an 'All Play' mode to sequentially play through purchased ring-tones in the library.

Amazon will begin taking orders for Ringboxx in June and consumers can obtain a unit through some local phone companies. The suggested retail price is $79.95.
