More Blu-ray support at IFA
Philips has joined the growing band of companies announcing Blu-ray hardware at Berlin's IFA consumer electronics show. And four US studios have announced a bucket-load of content for the format.

Philips' BDP9000 Blu-ray Disc player, designed to connect with HDTV and HDMI devices, will play high-definition content at 1080-pixel resolution.

The firm also plans to launch TripleWriter, an internal PC drive that can record and playback Blu-ray Disc formats as well as CD and DVD. The product will be available in Europe in October.

Sony, Warner, Paramount and 20th Century Fox all announced blockbuster movies on Blu-ray format to be made available between October and Christmas, including a Mission Impossible box set from Paramount which recently parted company with pint-sized star Tom Cruise.
