TPG customers that signed up to its $29.99 unlimited ADSL2+ plans can exit the contracts "without penalty" if they feel misled by the terms and conditions.
The free exit is part of an undertaking submitted to the Federal Court by TPG, and was offered to customers via an email sent between Thursday and Friday last week, according to users on the Whirlpool broadband forums.
Advertisements for the plan were found to be misleading last month by the Federal Court of Australia as it did not reveal the total cost of the plan — at $59.99 a month including a compulsory bundled $30 line rental product.
TPG has already been fined $2 million by the court for the ads.
It is appealing the ruling. Court dates are set for November this year.
However, in the meantime, TPG customers can exit the $29.99 plans for free.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission — which initiated the action against TPG — reinforced the availability of the offer in a statement.
