London Grid for London to secure 2,700 schools' email

The London Grid for Learning scheme is planning to protect more than one million school children from junk-email.

Under a three-year contract, email content filtering firm Email Systems is providing a managed service to try and cut down on the amount of pornographic and damaging email reaching schools.

"It's early days still," said Stuart Britt of Equinox Solutions, the broadband provider behind the London Grid for Learning scheme. "We were using Clearswift. But this is more reliable and flexible. There's much less spam"

The rollout so far spans over 75 per cent of the 2,700 schools participating in the scheme.

"We are thrilled to be able to provide filtering services which will have such an impact on the day-to-day use of email in so many school accross London," said Neil Hammerton, managing director of Email Systems.

In its research, Email Systems found that 80 per cent of school email is spam, and of that figure 52 per cent is pornographic.
