HP adds Phoenix Toner for supplies

Less than a month after parting ways with consumables distributor Dynamic Suppliers, HP's Imaging and Printing Group (IPG) has added Phoenix Toner to its distribution list. Phoenix joins Synnex and Tech Pacific on HP's books.

Starting 1 November, the $40 million supplies distributor will start moving all of HP's imaging and printing supplies, including toner, ink paper and storage media.

Don Bentley, general manager at Phoenix Toner, claimed that within the first 12 months, the HP deal could be worth $40 million to the distributor, doubling its current sales revenue run rate.

Bentley said Phoenix -- which used to sell to Daisytek -- applied for a direct distribution agreement when it discovered that Daisytek “had an issue”.

“When Daisytek went into Chapter 11, we suggested [to HP] that Phoenix Toner be considered for distribution,” he said, adding that the privately-held company has been in business since 1985 and supplies around 3,500 resellers with consumables. It also distributes for the likes of Epson, Canon, Lexmark, Kyocera and OKI.

“Since the [Daisytek's] demise we've picked up several Daisytek clients…Most people that have dealt with Daisytek have probably dealt with Phoenix,” he claimed. “It's a good pickup for us and from HP's perspective, for the first time ever they've got a distributor that understands the consumables marketplace,” he boasted.

Rebekah O'Flaherty, VP and GM of HP's IPG, added that Phoenix was one of the few distributors in Australia that specialise in supplies. “We are also very proud to be partnering with a fully Australian-owned company,” she said.
