The so-called i.settle.with.IT! website was formally launched on Saturday by non-profit WorkVentures, Federal Minister for Multicultural Affairs Senator Kate Lundy, and Microsoft.

The site features interactive activities, videos and images. It covers mouse and keyboard training and getting around Windows before requiring registration for further support.

It supplements a two-year-old technology training program of the same name, which has so far provided 8000 migrants with in-person training and counselling.

WorkVentures expected the site to allow it to extend its reach and target people who "[did] not have the flexibility to attend face-to-face training".

Senator Lundy said the new online tool provided simple, step-by-step training in English and basic computer skills to help new settlers find their feet in their new community.

“The resource was designed to provide the IT skills, knowledge and confidence for new settlers to undertake further education and employment essential to social inclusion,” she said.
