On Tuesday morning Nordicradio was shut down after eBay contacted the site hosts, the FBI and Norway's National Criminal Investigation Service (NCIS).
The radio station and its host, Lettnett, are not implicated, but Nordicradio has had its accounts frozen. The charges allege an employee set up a phishing site which operated from the radio station. The site spoofed auction site eBay and was intended to steal credit card information from users.
"We have been contacted by eBay after they discovered an attempted credit card swindle, eBay has filed charges with the FBI," said Trond Didrichsen, MD at Lettnett in an interview with Norwegian website Aftenposten. "From what I understand an employee of one of our clients is suspected of copying one of eBay's web pages and coding it in such a way that credit card numbers and personal information were sent to him."
The unnamed employee accused has stepped down from his job, protesting his innocence.
Earlier this month SC reported credit unions are increasingly becoming the target of choice for phishers.
