Australian businesses are trialling mobile solutions in a bid to streamline processes and gain a competitive edge, according to a survey released by Telstra.

The study found that 46 percent of those companies surveyed have invested in mobile solutions, according to a statement from Telstra.

Murray Bergin, managing director of mobile business sales at Telstra, said enterprises were keen to road test mobility solutions and gain an understanding of its potential, before deploying a mobility strategy within the company's broader IT and data networking plans.

"These trials are showing that mobility can fundamentally improve business processes, not only in the field but also in back of house operations," Bergin said.

"The move to mobilise is consistent with the drive to extend enterprise -- large or small -- beyond its physical walls. Feedback from a number of our customers shows they are reducing costs, raising revenue, improving customer service and creating new channels to market."

"Australians are well known as early adopters of new technology and we are seeing encouraging signs in the use of wireless data," Bergin said.

"The technology is available and as our innovators show, there is the opportunity today to gain immediate competitive advantage through the implementation of a mobility solution."
