NSW Minister for Customer Service and Digital, Victor Dominello told audiences at the Tech Leaders Forum in the Blue Mountains this weekend that Web3 will be core to building trust and accountability.

He outlined the value in individual control of data that he believes will help to build trust in government.
“It's about empowering the individual because the power of the individual in a democracy is counter-balanced, or is a contrast to the power of the state in an autocracy. The more we empower the individual, through control of their information, their data, their credentials, the more we strengthen our democracy,” he said.
Looking to Web3 to provide accountability, Dominello stated that he reached out to Tim Berners-Lee, described as the ‘Inventor of the World Wide Web’, about a product for service delivery in a Web3 format.
“[Berners-Lee] is now building out in Flanders a product around service delivery in a Web3 format. I reached out to Flanders about a month ago, and we're having some really good discussions because we're trying to do the same relation of Service NSW,” said Dominello.
“I'd be encouraged to see if we could do something in that space. Because ultimately, if you put the power in the individual, and there is data mobility around the individual, it will be the major driver for improved service delivery.”
Web3 was also a topic of conversation during the Future Tech panel at the Tech Leaders event.
Lisa Wade, CEO of ASX-listed Bitcoin and digital asset fund manager DigitalX told audiences that Web3 will rebuild financial rails and improve control around data privacy.
Wade described a financial environment where data can be ringfenced so that individuals do not have to provide their private information to third parties, but rather can provide access to others to enter their own ecosystem, where their own data privacy prevails.
“Today if I want to go shopping online, I have to give somebody my credit card details. I have to give them my address,” said Wade.
“My data is out there everywhere in the world. My credit card, I can't even keep up to date with how many times Google tells me my password I've doubled down on.”
Wade believes that Web3 will provide an inversion of this system.
“Rather than me downloading the app on my phone, I invite that app into my ecosystem, which gives me that data privacy,” she said.
