Dell unveils its first ruggedised laptop
Dell today unveiled its first ruggedised laptop, claiming that the Latitude ATG D620 conforms to military standards for coping with vibration, humidity and altitude.

The device features a shock-mounted hard drive, spill-resistant keyboard, port covers and specially hardened paint.

It is designed to withstand the "challenging conditions" associated with military environments, construction sites and emergency organisations.

"The Latitude ATG includes a 14.1in display with ambient light sensor, glass overlay and anti-reflective coating, which is one and half times brighter than most mainstream corporate notebooks for better viewing in sunlight," the company stated.

"Customers working in the military, emergency preparedness, construction and even the golf industry say that seeing the display in full daylight is an important factor in their notebook computing experience."

The laptops, priced from US$2,499, are available now in the US and will be available in other regions in the next "couple weeks", according to Dell.
