Currently Analysis splits off consumer business
Analyst firm Current Analysis has sold its consumer electronics, imaging and computer business groups to rival analyst firm NPD Group.

The NPD group offers market analysis services to companies in the business to consumer segment. Currently Analysis historically has focused on the telecommunications industry from a business to business perspective.

"The only real competition that the consumer electronics division had, was with the NPD Group," Currently Analysis spokesman Richard Mendis told vnunet.

"It made sense to divest in that unit to a company that was better established in that area."

He added that the activities that have been spun off accounted for roughly 20 per cent of the company's revenues. The remainder of its sales came from tracking the telecommunications industry.

The spun off Current Analysis business among things tracked retail sales and market shares of technology devices, as well as trends in devices like notebook computers.

The group has been renamed Current Analysis West. Former Current Analysis executives will take on the firm's day-to-day management.

Financial details weren't disclosed.
