ACT Govt lauds its cyber attack repulsion

In a brief statement, chief minister Jon Stanhope said the territory government's ICT team had thwarted some 646,700 attacks over the last 12 months.

These attacks included 78,000 rated as "high" on the Common Vulnerability Scoring System, he said.

Most attacks were rated as either medium or low in severity.

"The ACT Government, through its information communication technology (ICT) service provider, InTACT, has implemented a layered defence against cyber attacks on 98 ACT Government-hosted websites," Stanhope said.

InTACT managed "four major computer centres, over 1,100 Windows, UNIX and Linux servers, more than 300 terabytes of data storage, over 1,500 network devices, Government-wide IP telephony, an integrated fibre-optic voice and data network, and high-speed Internet connectivity", the ISP said on its website.
