Acer to supply 65k notebooks to QLD schools

Latest round of computers for schools program.

Acer has won a deal to supply up to 65,000 notebook computers to secondary schools in Queensland.

The computer maker said it won a tender from the state Department of Education to supply the computers to schools.

The computers are being purchased as part of round three of the National Secondary School Computer Fund program.

The Federal program provides $1000 a computer and up to $1500 for the installation and maintenance of the device.

Acer said it would deploy its Aspire 1830T notebooks in schools before the end of the year. Students would receive Targus bags to carry the devices.

The devices are also 3G-enabled - an Australian first, according to the department's chief information officer David O'Hagan.
