Microsoft's Surface Pro offers the full Windows suite compared to its Surface RT sister. It's a Windows 8-running, Intel x86 chip boasting hybrid which is targeted squarely at the business market.
The Surface Pro offers a digital input pen which can take notes, draw and control the cursor.
As a standalone product, the Surface Pro will be available in 64GB and 128GB models, starting from $US899 ($A850), on February 9 but only in the US and Canada. Microsoft declined to comment on why Australia was not included in the first run.
Optional type and touch covers are available for purchase, but have not been bundled with the tablet as they were with Surface RT. The type cover (pictured) offers more tactile feedback than the touch cover, with physical keys. It can be bought for $149.99. The touch cover costs $139.99.
The tablet includes 4GB RAM, USB 3.0, microSDXC slot, two 720p cameras and a two-year hardware warranty.
The case is magnesium and is 13.5mm thick, including the integrated kickstand. Surface Pro weighs 903 grams compared to the RT's 676 grams.
Microsoft's wedge touch mouse will launch in Australia alongside the Surface Pro, for $US69.99 ($A62.28). Check out our review for how both the wedge touch and sculpt touch mice fare.
Microsoft also announced touch covers in three new colours, for $129.99. No word on whether they will arrive here.
