Critical infrastructure companies in telecommunications, financial services, transportation and utility markets will need to heed the impact the adoption of new technologies will have on their IT security deployments and practices if they want to keep up with the vulnerabilities such upgrades often cause.

According to recent research from Gartner Inc., "Predicts 2004: Critical Infrastructure Protection," taking on newer IP-based technologies, such as VoIP or radio frequency identification (RFIC), to better their enterprise reach is only a good idea if companies keep in mind the new vulnerabilities such technologies create.

Company executives in critical infrastructure industries will need to ensure that the more advanced enterprise technology they wish to take on to meet their business goals is reviewed by infosec colleagues for its impact on their network security before they deploy it.
