ACTA ACTA

ACTA is the anti-counterfeiting trade agreement, a US-led treaty being negotiated between 27 countries (including Australia) as a global effort to crack down on copyright piracy and trademark infringements. Whilst the official documentation claims the treaty is aimed at “harmonising” the copyright laws across borders, observers of the negotiations argue it is primarily aimed at cracking down on internet file-sharing and that it may prove onerous for internet service providers, web hosts and search engines.
