Managed communications service provider Zircon has named a marketing and public relations specialist as its new managing director.
Zircon said in a statement it had appointed former Something Inventive managing director Gwen John to run the company alongside another new appointment, operations director Anthony Shewan.
John has 14 years of IT-related experience, mainly in sales and marketing roles. Before Something Inventive, she was a group manager at IT public relations consultancy Recognition PR.
Shewan has 20 years of experience in the operations and logistics for pharmaceutical, printing and gaming companies, the statement said.
John's plans were for Zircon to act as something of a helpmeet for the telecommunications channel.
"Zircon fills an interesting niche in the market today," John said. "We offer resellers a number of IP services, including hosting, connectivity and voice solutions."
The Sydney distributor-come-service provider offered professional services, managed services and integration to resellers under its Boost program, she said.
"This gives our channel opportunities to earn revenue but have their distributor do the bulk of the work for them," John claimed.
John said program members would be part of Zircon's "virtual sales team", with the distributor adding professional services and pre-sales support to the mix.
Zircon was also seeking new resellers to add to its stable of 60, John said.
