Founders of the Open Source Vulnerability Database (OSVDB) said they believed despite the existence of commercial databases, no one was tracking vulnerabilities efficiently.
The database gathers information from mailing lists and voluntary submissions. Group members list vulnerabililties and tag them with a unique serial number.
There are approximately 1,900 catalogued vulnerabilities in the database.
The founders of the group are reported to be seeking non-profit status from the US Government.
