Vodafone buys Crazy John's

Almost a year since the death of Crazy Johns' founder, John Ilhan, his wife, Patricia has sold her share of the mobile phone retailer to Vodafone.

The phone giant acquired 75 percent from Ilhan and 8.3 percent from the National Australia Bank.

Brendan Fleiter, CEO at Crazy John's told CRNit will remain as a standalone brand, within Vodafone.

“I am remaining as the CEO. The staff are very positive about the acquisition because it gives us further opportunity to expand our brand,” he said.

“We will have access to expertise and support from a global mobile phone operator.”

Fleiter said over the next few months, Crazy John's will concentrate on opening new stores across Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales.

The acquisition follows Vodafone Australia and the iconic Australian mobile phone retailer’s extension of their exclusive retail and wholesale arrangement.

“We will also continue to further our own branded mobile phone plans, while continuing to sell Vodafone’s entire range of mobile phone products,” said Fleiter.

Dave Boorman, CFO and strategy director at Vodafone Australia said all of the monetary arrangements were confidential, due to it being a private purchase.
