A spokeswoman for the carrier confirmed to iTnews that upgrades had been applied to the Endeavour, Reach North Asia Loop (RNAL) and to Telstra's designated portion of the Asia America Gateway (AAG) cable.

All three were upgraded with Infinera's DTN-X platform, which Telstra tested on its AAG portion a year ago.

The same platform is also used by rival operators in the region including PIPE Networks and the Australia-Japan Cable.

Telstra Global's chief operating officer Darrin Webb said the upgrades would "meet the speed and capacity needs" of the carrier's customers, without elaborating.

The announcement coincides with the annual Pacific Telecommunications Council conference in Hawaii — a gathering point for the region's subsea cable operators and customers.
