Univa Corporation, an open source cluster and grid software and services company, has announced a multi-level relationship with Sun Microsystems.

Sun shines on Univa partnership
The agreement is based on an OEM and support option for Sun's Grid Engine to be integrated into the Univa Globus Cluster Edition software, as well as membership to the Sun Partner Advantage Program and joint marketing and sales efforts.

The announcement follows the incorporation of the Sun Grid Engine within the Univa Globus Cluster Edition, which launched in April and has taken off rapidly in the open source community.

Cluster Edition provides an integrated solution that reduces cluster management costs and increases productivity.

"Univa and Sun are a natural match, and combining two advanced technologies like this provides additional benefits for our customers," said Fritz Ferstl, director of grid computing engineering at Sun.

"Univa's customers will have access to the Sun Grid Engine commercial product and will be able to take advantage of Sun's HPC product and services stack, including Sun HPC ClusterTools and the advanced features of Solaris 10."

Jason Liu, chief executive at Univa, added: "It is our mission to offer best-of-breed software for Cluster and Grid users, and Sun is the industry standard and best product available for job scheduling.

"We hope that this relationship continues to provide our customers with high-quality, robust, and scalable cluster software for years to come."
