Mining services firm NRW Holdings has cut a multi-million dollar contract with Perth's Empired for managed IT infrastructure services and assistance on project works.

The base contract, which runs for two years with three one-year extensions possible, focuses on server and network management and monitoring, workplace IT service delivery "plus a range of governance, processing and reporting functions".

Empired will also help deliver project work in conjunction with NRW.

"Currently, Empired is assisting NRW with implementation of new infrastructure in remote site offices and the implementation of new IP based integrated phone systems," the integrator noted in a financial filing. (pdf)

NRW's chief information officer Sue Worrall said the firm is "going through an exciting phase and it is paramount that we have secure, robust and scalable business systems and partners that we can rely on to deliver".

She said the procurement of IT services was "strongly contested".

NRW's head office is in Perth, but it has branch offices located near mining areas in Newman (WA), Mackay (QLD) and Simandou (West Africa).

It offers "civil construction and mining services, drill and blast services, the sale of heavy mining and ancillary equipment, and full equipment maintenance and repair capabilities."

The managed services deal is the second piece of IT work to be given the go-ahead by NRW in the second half of this year.

In July, the company agreed to implement PayGlobal Exolvo as its worldwide resource management system, covering over 3720 full-time workers, contractors and sub-contractors.
