According to independent security consultancy Zone-H, the attacks came after bombings by Israel of Hezbollah strongholds within Lebanon.
Two NASA websites were attacked by Chilean group of hackers known as Byond Hackers Crew. They attacked the website using an SQL injection technique which allowed them to gain entry and copy user names, passwords and e-mails from the NASA web server. Zone-H said this enabled the hackers to enter the administrative area by using an administrator user ID and password.
Finally they replaced the homepage with the message "No war. This is a cyber-protest, we are : Xtech Inc (Argentina-Mexico-Germany)- eno7 (Turkey)- byond crew (Chile) - hackbsd crew (Cuba-Dominican Republic) defaced by byond crew – Chile." A picture of a bomb victim's face also appeared on the defaced site.
A number of other websites, including those of the National Security Agency, the University of California at Berkeley and military sites were also targeted in the attacks.
