NAB strikes enterprise telco deal with TPG

Will use TPG and NBN fixed-line and Vodafone mobile services.

NAB has struck an enterprise agreement with TPG Telecom that will see it use a mix of TPG and NBN fixed-line services as well as Vodafone mobile services.

Under the deal, TPG will deliver fixed network services across NAB’s corporate offices, business banking centres and branches.

In addition, Vodafone will provide mobile connectivity “to the majority of the NAB workforce”, who will also be given Google Pixel4a devices if they opt “for a company-provided device.”

TPG Telecom’s chief operating officer Craig Levy said the deal demonstrated “the benefits of the merger that created TPG Telecom”.

TPG and Vodafone came together in a $15 billion merger this year.

“Connectivity and technology are an integral part of NAB’s operations, and there are huge benefits from having all services and support in one place,” Levy said.

“We believe that the Vodafone mobile network and the TPG fibre network, augmented by the NBN, will deliver NAB’s requirements and provide reliable and cost-effective connectivity.” 

TPG said it would use either its own fibre or NBN services “across more than 700 locations”.

It also said that its “automation capabilities will provide NAB with enhanced service delivery and enable the faster delivery of network changes.”

“A standardised network platform will also allow simpler management across thousands of sites, including on-net TPG fibre and bandwidth supplied over the NBN,” the telco said.

In addition to providing mobile services and devices, Vodafone will “deliver a bespoke enterprise managed mobility solution to more than 80 percent of NAB’s mobile fleet across their corporate offices and branches in metro and major regional areas,” TPG said.

NAB’s executive for enterprise technology, Steve Day said the deal “is an important step in our insourcing journey which is about increasing control and flexibility back into the company.”

That insourcing journey has seen the bank move from a largely outsourced IT environment to rebuilding its internal IT capabilities, and migrating much of its application stack into the cloud, a process which is ongoing.

Day said NAB is “extremely pleased we’ll be able to bring our services together with one company and make the most of TPG Telecoms’ assets including the Vodafone mobile network, TPG fibre and TPG services via the NBN”.
